The Waorani Handwoven Flat Basket is made by hand by members of the Waorani people, who live deep in the heart of the Amazon region of Ecuador. These baskets are created for household use and as a traditional art form. The organic materials used are carefully harvested only from trees that have died and fallen naturally, to prevent deforestation of the rainforest. The artisans do not often sell their products, as money is not used commonly in their communities for daily life. They are also very cautious to open up to outsiders, aware of the precious way of life that they are actively preserving. This, along with the fact that only a few thousand Waorani remain among the population, makes these products particularly rare to find!

Uses: This basket is equally beautiful as a decorative piece on your living room wall/a pot holder on your dining room table/ or as a stand-alone centerpiece on a coffee table. It is functional and stylish, while bringing a piece of the Amazon Rainforest into your home!

Material: Ethically crafted from material found right in the Amazon Rainforest. It is made of chambira fiber and natural dyes.

Size: Each piece found here is handmade, therefore each is truly unique and one-of-a-kind. Therefore, sizes may vary slightly. Baskets range between 5-8″ in diameter.

Shipping: Continental US. These products are coming from the Amazon region of Ecuador, so please allow up to 30 business days for the product(s) to arrive to your home. An additional $9 is added to the cost of the product for the purposes of shipping.
